A victim of appalling domestic abuse has spoken about her ordeal and welcomed a new law enabling people to check if their partner has a history of violence or abuse. During his campaign of cruelty, David Sean Thompson stubbed a cigarette out on his girlfriend’s face while out in Leamington Spa.

The vicious thug also spat at his partner before subjecting her to a ‘protracted beating’ in a hotel room following a wedding reception, DerbyshireLive reported. Thompson, 33, of Goggbridge Lane, Warwick, denied coercive and controlling behaviour.

But a jury convicted him and earlier this month he was given an 18-month jail sentence suspended for two years. Thompson was also fined £2,000 and ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work.
