A former Essex Police officer is alleged to have skipped important domestic abuse training in order to go to the gym, a misconduct panel has heard. PC Andreas Averkiou resigned from Essex Police in July 2023.
The hearing, chaired by Mr Andrew Hearn and held virtually, was told that Mr Averkiou was required to work on August 17, 2022, between 8am and 4pm in order to participate in online, remote training referred to as ‘Domestic Abuse Flex Training’. The training was of such importance that participants required email permission from the local Superintendent in order to change the dates.
