A Cambridgeshire man who fatally shot a father and son over a family court case involving his grandson has seen his sentencing date adjourned. Stephen Alderton was due to be sentenced for the murders of Gary and Joshua Dunmore at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (October 20) but the hearing has been delayed to Monday (October 23).

Alderton, 67, was arrested by armed officers on a motorway hours after fatally shooting his daughter’s ex-partner and her ex-partner’s father with a shotgun in their homes in Bluntisham and Sutton in March this year, PA reports. Prosecutor Stephen Gair told Cambridge Crown Court that he told the police “sometimes you have to do what you have to do even if it’s wrong in the eyes of the law”.

The murders came two days after a family court hearing, Mr Gair said.
