More than 3,000 applications have been made to Northumbria Police in the last 12 months requesting information about a current, emerging, or ex partner’s history of abusive behaviour.

The Clare’s Law Scheme is a police policy which gives people the right to request information from any police force about any previous history of violence or abuse on a partner’s record under the Right to Ask scheme. The initiative – formally known as The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) – was first introduced in 2009 to protect anyone at risk of Domestic Abuse.
