The bad news is sexual harassment in a public place isn’t a criminal offence, but it should be. Misogyny isn’t a hate crime, but it should be,’ says Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, as he sits down with ELLE UK to discuss a new campaign tackling violence against women.
‘Often, men think it’s banter, but some of the words they use around women can lead to misogyny, then an escalation to domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual offences.’ Continuing, he states, ‘Every three days across the country, a woman dies at the hands of a man… so there has got to be a whole system’s approach to this epidemic of violence against women and girls.’
